Time is running out to fill in a new French government form.

By 30 June 2023, all French property owners – that is, those with permanent residency, a second home, landlords and property investors – must complete this déclaration. The form is available only online and accessible via your tax account on the impots.gouv.fr website.

If you own other properties a separate declaration is necessary.

Even if you do not live in the property – or the property is empty – a déclaration is still essential.

Is completing the déclaration an annual requirement?

No. You must though declare any changes to your situation. Examples include if you buy or sell any property in France.

Are there any exceptions?

Yes, some. The exceptions to this are owners of commercial properties such as full-time gites/holiday home businesses. If they are not officially registered though, you must fill in a déclaration.

If the property is not habitable, contact your local Mairie for an attestation.
