France is steeped in automotive history. The world’s first competitive motor event, the Paris-Rouen trial race[1], roared to life 130 years ago! And the country’s love affair with classic cars shows no signs of slowing down.

What attracts people to owning a classic car in France? For many, it is a nostalgic journey through automotive heritage; an opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship whilst enjoying some of the beautiful scenery the country has to offer en route.

Cruising through charming French villages, towns, and bustling cities in a classic car is sure to turn heads and spark conversations. There are also plenty of classic car club meets and rallies to participate in throughout the year, organised events and more informal get togethers. Below are just a small selection this summer:

• Destination Champagne (22 – 24 June) : this rally starts in Liège, Belgium and finishes in France’s capital of champagne, Reims. .. polish your flutes, this rally’s got you covered from checkered flags to champagne corks!

• Expo Rétro du Voironnais (7 July) : Close to Grenoble in south eastern France is the 10th biennial exhibition of around 200 vintage vehicles. Time to pack the picnic!

• Rallye Châteaux de la Loire (25/29 August) : Châteaux, vineyards, and French charm… this rally is the chance to discover France’s most beautiful regions via specially selected, little-known regional routes whilst enjoy its delicious food and drink.

• Angoulême Circuits des Remparts (15 September) : One of the biggest events in France, held every mid-September. It’s a captivating automotive spectacle that showcases classic cars racing through the historic streets of the historic town of Angoulême. There is also a big rally on the Saturday, attracting some 300-400 vehicles.
